Molteni&C Introduces Refreshed Los Angeles Flagship with Collector Aesthetics
The Vincent Van Duysen-led Italian design giant expands its American footprints with an airy, conceptual new space on Robertson Boulevard
Legendary Italian design brand Molteni&C debuted its refreshed Los Angeles flagship store this week. Specially tuned to the light-filled California style, the retail space prizes calm, featuring elements such as pale wood and travertine.
Creative Director Vincent Van Duysen envisioned the space along the ideals of an “art collector’s house,” and less as a commercial space. It surrounds visitors with a sense of calm and proportion, easily allowing them to imagine themselves within a blissfully streamlined home life. In addition to Van Duysen, architecture and design visionaries Herzog & de Meuron, Foster + Partners, Jean Nouvel, and Christophe Delcourt contributed to the atmospherics.
The latest pieces in the outdoor collection were a standout of this year’s Milan Design Week. The LA store displays them on the first floor, where the recent Chelsea outdoor furnishings are followed by a conversation area and dining area showcasing the Soleva collection. Other highlights of the first floor include the Physis and Ratio kitchens and the Gliss Master System, a customizable, modular closet and walk-in wardrobe solution, and, of course, Gio Ponti. On the second floor, visitors will find ideas for sleep time in the Night Collection with the Theo bed by Yabu Pushelberg as well as a corner with the Cinnamoon armchair from Naoto Fukasawa, along with further kitchen and living room areas.
Founded over 90 years ago in Lombardy, Italy, Molteni&C has long been among the foremost names in contemporary Italian design. The Los Angeles store is part of a strategic global vision that has seen openings in London, Paris, Doha, New York, Singapore, Miami, Melbourne, and Washington D.C., with further openings planned in Sydney and Lyon.
