Designer Katie Ridder Reveals Her Mother’s Day Gift List
From laid-back luxury to indulgent items designed for self-care, these thoughtful treats are sure to show moms of all types just how much they're loved
As a designer, Katie Ridder crafts beautiful spaces that nod to a traditional aesthetic, but with a decidedly contemporary edge. The residences she conjures in urban environments feature jewel box-like rooms of burgundy, peacock, and teal in light-reflecting lacquer, with refreshing textiles in softer, complimentary shades. She’s equally expressive with color and pattern in the country retreats she designs, outfitting addresses everywhere from Greenwich, Connecticut to Pebble Beach, California with scenic wall coverings, rugs with geometric patterns, and exquisite chandeliers and sconces.
Her vibrant interiors have filled three volumes, including A House in the Country (Vendome), written in collaboration with her husband, architect Peter Pennoyer, that spotlights the family’s Greek Revival place in Millbrook, New York. She’s also enlivened a number of show houses, including the 2023 Kips Bay Palm Beach Decorator Show House.
Here, Ridder shares the thoughtful—and delightfully colorful—items she suggests for Mother’s Day.
