Inside the $21 Million Carmel-by-the-Sea Home That Clint Eastwood Lived in While Mayor

Built in 1924, this Spanish Revival-style property called Las Ondas retains old-world charm and is located just a block from the Pacific Ocean

Hollywood legend Clint Eastwood once called this incredible century-old Spanish Revival-style property home. Now, it can be yours for $21 million.

Located in the scenic village of Carmel-by-the-Sea along California’s Monterey Peninsula, this home, known as Las Ondas, was first built in 1924. Eastwood lived in the home from 1981 to 1996, which includes the time he spent as mayor of Carmel-by-the-Sea between 1986 and 1988. The seller, Frederick O’Such, purchased the home from a trust linked to Eastwood in 1996 and spent two years (and $2.5 million) renovating the property.

“Many long-standing residents in the region have an affinity for the history of this property,” says Tim Allen. “The warm and inviting spaces, both inside and outside, take you back in time and are reflective of Carmel’s old-world style and beauty. This private oasis is truly a special property not only because of its history but also for its exquisiteness and privacy.”

The 4,442-square-foot home has four bedrooms, four full bathrooms, and a powder room across three levels. The home is crafted from Carmel stone and a clay tile roof and surrounded by native landscaping. The front of the home features a private, interior courtyard lined with tall stone walls and a fire pit, with room for al fresco dining. Inside a spacious foyer leads to a sun-drenched living room that overlooks both the ocean and interior courtyard, complete with a stone fireplace. The entire home features mahogany wood beams, cherry wood floors, plastered walls, and mahogany doors, window trims, staircases, and built-in shelving.

The main level also includes a formal dining room with a fireplace, two bedrooms, and a Craftsman-style kitchen with Spanish-style tiling, ornate ceiling tiles, and top-of-the-line appliances. The kitchen also includes a quaint, built-in breakfast nook overlooking the ocean. Las Ondas has two sumptuous primary suites: one on the main level and one on the upper level. The largest of the two primary suites is located on the upper level and is like a private apartment. It has soaring vaulted, wood-beamed ceilings, massive windows, a fireplace, and a private stone terrace that puts you at eye level with the treetops. The charming bathroom has a hand-painted clawfoot tub and an oversized steam shower. There’s also a private laundry room off the bedroom.

The fourth en suite bedroom is located on the lower level, adjacent to the family/media room and the temperature-controlled wine cellar. Because the home is built into a hillside, there’s direct access to another outdoor terrace filled with lush landscaping. Finally, there’s a detached two-car stone garage and room to park several cars. Carmel Beach is conveniently located just a block away, and the home puts you in walking distance from downtown Carmel’s many restaurants and shopping.

The 1998 redesign by the current owner saw a complete rebuild of the home, including updated the HVAC, electric and plumping, and an earthquake retrofit.

Las Ondas is listed for $21 million with Tim Allen of Tim Allen Properties Team, an affiliate of Coldwell Banker Realty. See more photos below.
