2. The Whitney Museum Unveils Art-Filled Café with Frenchette Bakery

Starting this month, there’s yet another reason for locals and tourists to flock to the Whitney Museum of American Art. As part of its new beverage and culinary program, TriBeca hotspot Frenchette Bakery has found a second home on the museum’s ground floor, which has received a total refresh courtesy of New York architecture firm Modellus Novus. With plans to open sit-down breakfast and dining later this year, the famed bakery will kick off this partnership by offering an assortment of takeout breakfast, lunch, and baked goods options. To complement the bakery’s delectable bites, the Whitney commissioned artist Rashid Johnson for an expansive indoor-outdoor installation titled New Poetry, a steel shelved sculpture adorned by collectible objects such as poetry books, ceramics, and plants, which flows inside the restaurant to the outdoor sidewalk. Along with the ground floor’s addition, the museum and Frenchette team plan to unveil a whole new cafe on the museum’s eighth floor, set to open in 2024, which will feature a special commission from contemporary artist Dyani White Hawk. —Shelby Black
