B. Wurtz’s first public commission is unveiled and star chef Zak Pelaccio of Hudson's famed Fish & Game hosts a culinary festival
Sometimes, a little bit of travel goes a long way. Start off this week in the heart of Manhattan for the unveiling of a highly anticipated Public Art Fund commission by artist B. Wurtz, and stick around for a discussion with top designers moderated by Galerie’s own editor-in-chief Jacqueline Terrebonne. When the weekend rolls around, escape north for Hudson’s Fish & Game culinary event “Playing with Fire,” or east to the opening of “Ellsworth Kelly in the Hamptons” at Guild Hall in the exhibition’s namesake town.
1. B. Wurtz: Kitchen Trees
City Hall Park
For the first time in his 50-year career, New York–based artist B. Wurtz has taken on a public commission. For the outdoor exhibition, which is organized by the Public Art Fund, B. Wurtz is installing five new sculptures in City Hall Park. Composed of found kitchen items like colanders, the large-scale sculptures will resemble trees, in one way blending in with the park’s natural aesthetic while also adding some humorous contemporary flair.

2. Upending the Art World: Misha Khan and Katie Stout
Spring Place

3. Gertrude Abercrombie
Karma
Work by the “queen of the bohemian artists” will be on view in Abercrombie’s first New York solo show since 1952. Much of her work captures the simple countryside that was the backdrop for her adolescent years in Aledo, Illinois.

Museum of Modern Art Sculpture Garden
The vocal powerhouse, whose recent album Black Terry Cat received wide critical acclaim, will claim the spotlight in MoMA’s sculpture garden this week.

5. Ellsworth Kelly in the Hamptons
Guild Hall, East Hampton
An exhibition of work from the minimalist artist’s sabbaticals in the Hamptons in 1960 and ’61 goes on view at Guild Hall Saturday. The show comprises works from paintings to photographs and even a large-scale sculpture, chronicling what was actually a largely overlooked, yet crucial, time in his career.

6. Playing with Fire
Fish & Game Farm, Hudson
Zak Pelaccio, the James Beard award-winning chef behind Fish & Game, is bringing back the epic Hudson food event “Playing with Fire.” The second iteration of this afternoon of food, art, and music in idyllic Hudson sees award-winning chefs from around the region come together for “open fire and whole animal cooking” at the Fish & Game farm. For the event, each chef will prepare a dish on a one-of-a-kind sculptural grilling apparatus crafted by local artist Kris Perry, uniquely integrating art and culture. Making things even better, proceeds will be donated to The Heirloom Foundation.
