Top Jewelry Looks from the Cannes Red Carpet

Chopard has been the key player as a sponsor of the event, but there have been plenty of other beautiful moments this year

Spread out over 11 days in May, the Cannes Film Festival offers ample opportunity for showcasing the latest in cinematic achievement, but also for stellar post-awards season red carpet people-watching. Chopard has been the key player as a sponsor of the event, but there have been beautiful appearances from a plethora of jewelry names, and intriguing trends to keep an eye on. Here are some of Galerie’s favorite red carpet jewelry moments from Cannes so far.

1. Demi Moore’s Blockbuster Chopard Collar

Hollywood legend Demi Moore kicked off her turn on the Cannes jury by wearing an imposing Haute Joaillerie Collection Chopard collar to the opening night. Reminiscent in its shape of ancient Egyptian collars, the necklace has 226.34-carats of marquise-cut diamonds arranged in five tiers of graduated size. Ms. Moore paired the 18k white gold-set piece with two Chopard rings and a radiant pair of earrings containing 22.87-carats of diamonds.

2. Daisy Edgar Jones’s Boucheron Back Necklace

The back necklace has been trending quietly on the red carpet for a while. It always looks fresh and original. While the classic face-framing collar piece remains a go-to, the back necklace is an eye option for stars who want to do something a little different. Daisy Edgar Jones understood the assignment when she attended the Fjord screening red carpet in Boucheron’s Quatre Radiant Edition diamond tie necklace, with the centerpiece casually flipped to the back.

3. Jane Fonda’s Timelessly Simple Pomellato

Jane Fonda has been attending Cannes for six decades, but she still finds new ways to wow the camera. This year, she attended the opening night red carpet wearing the Iconica necklace from Pomellato’s High Jewelry collection. Cabochon cuts like the one seen on the 46.34-carat aquamarine pendant on Fonda’s necklace are subtle yet memorable, but there was no lack of sparkle here: the diamond pavé chain set off the centerpiece to perfection.

4. Saturated Color: Ruth Negga Wears Chopard Emerald Earrings

Cannes jury member and Academy Award nominee Ruth Negga wore Chopard emerald earrings with an Yves Saint Laurent dress for the premiere of La Vie d’une Femme. The deceptively minimalist settings let the stones and their brilliant color sing sing. The earrings, from the Haute Joaillerie Collection, set 41.12-carats of emerald-cut emeralds in ethical with gold. Negga also wore a 11.05-carat emerald Chopard emerald ring of similar design magnitude from the same collection.

5. Women Take Back the Brooch: Anja Rubik in Boucheron

Men have been wearing statement brooches on their lapels to awards shows and other red carpet events for a few years now. But should the men get to have all the fun when the brooch is an ornamentation opportunity that women surrendered? Women are finally staking their claim to the brooch, as seen on Anja Rubik in Boucheron. There’s a caveat: so far, women are wearing the brooch with menswear-inspired looks. Juliette Binoche got in on the act when she adorned her Céline suit with a diamond floral pin from Maison Fred.

This is a developing story. Please continue to check back for updates.
