Jacquemus Opens First New York Boutique

The flagship location made its debut after a year-long creative process

Although the flagship boutique is in Soho, the vision of Simon Porte Jacquemus makes his latest creation feel like a French homecoming. The two-story store—the first U.S. boutique for Jacquemus—pulls on Parisian and Provencal influences throughout creating an inspired ambiance that’s amplified by carefully curated art and furniture.

Lithographs by Aristide Maillol and Joan Miró contribute to the French allure, as does an engraving by Pierre Bonnard, and photographs by Peter Schlesinger and Wolfgang Tillmans. Bronze sculptures by Aristide Maillol on loan from Galerie Dian Vierny help complete the journey to Europe.

On the exterior, the corner store is housed in both a 19th-century townhouse and a paneled glass and metal front from the 2000s, representing a blend of two distinct styles that are united in a shade of oyster white. The interior design—carried out by OMA in collaboration with Jacquemus during a nearly year-long process—is both minimalist and warm, capitalizing on the characteristics of both buildings.

The French fashion creative said he treated the space as if he were designing his own home, with the goal of achieving an intimate experience.

As such, the boutique’s ambiance is amplified by select pieces of furniture designed by OMA and acquired by Jacquemus, as well as two Frank Lloyd Wright wood side chairs (circa 1956) on loan from Christie’s. Elsewhere throughout the store are the Chaise Croisillon from Jean Royere and a “Slipper chair” by Jean Dunand and Bertrand Lacroix, that at one point belonged to Madeleine Vionnet.
