10 Serpent-Inspired Introductions to Celebrate the Lunar New Year

Welcome the Year of the Snake with these fashion-forward items that pay tribute to the iconic, mythological creature

It is officially the Year of the Snake, and as such many believe it to be a sign of change, prosperity, and healing, as we shed the past and renew ourselves for the future in the year ahead. However, one can’t be too confident in a positive prediction for 2025 as serpents also have the uniqueness of representing both good and bad with evil and cunning among its supposed characteristics dating all the way back to the snake tempting Eve in the Garden of Eden. However, this narrative quickly changed to healing in the Old Testament as Moses held up a staff with a bronze serpent to cure the Israelites as he led them through the Wilderness. This symbol of the snake and rod, which the Greeks also further populated, is still used today as a representation of the medical field. Lastly, reptiles were also believed to be guardians or protectors with the ancient Egyptian, Hindu and Buddhist cultures depicting the cobra spreading its hood over their gods and in their temples. Regardless of your interpretation, snakes have always been a constant motif in the design world.

With the longevity of their emblematic role in mythology and design, many luxury companies were eager to create accessories and design pieces inspired by the reptilian motif with the color red used throughout. From a beautiful, lacquered watch by Harry Winston to a bejeweled golden serpent wrapped around a red, Guerlain perfume bottle, there are so many options to choose from. If you were born in the Zodiac year or if you are just a fan of the beautiful, slithering animal, we’ve rounded up some of our favorite, new items. Here’s hoping they bring you a flourishing year of change and rebirth!
