In Montecito Style: Paradise on California’s Gold Coast (The Monacelli Press), out this fall, photographer Firooz Zahedi and writer Lorie Dewhirst Porter capture the sheer beauty of the West Coast town, known for incredible homes such as this one, owned by collectors Jane and Marc Nathanson. Originally designed by architect Wallace Neff, it was renovated by Richard Hallberg.

In the living room, an Anish Kapoor wall sculpture casts reflections above the custom-designed sofa upholstered in a fabric by Formations, which also made the armchairs. Hallberg conceived the cocktail table with a selenite-slab top, and the rug is by S & J Biren.

A colorful work by Charles Hinman hangs above the living room fireplace, which overlooks a Fernando Mastrangelo table and custom-made twin daybeds.

In the family room, Biff Heinrich’s photograph Pool invokes a casual atmosphere, and the custom banquette provides a perfect backdrop for the massive triangular cocktail table by Ben Storms, which is topped by a whimsical Jeff Koons Puppy vase.

Paola Lenti chairs surround the lacquer-finish custom table in the dining room, where a large Gilbert & George photo mural commands one wall and a Marlo Pascual work incorporating a candle sconce hangs near the entry.

Outside the guest room, another work by Kruger joins a Duane Hanson sculpture of a couple seated on a bench. 

A piece by Barbara Kruger is mounted inside the downstairs guest room, where an Eero Aarnio Pony chair adds a playful touch.

A work by John Baldessari hangs next to a bedroom featuring a framed Roy Lichtenstein perched atop a nightstand designed by Hallberg. The throw is antique mud cloth, and the custom rug is by Coverall Industries.
