As the art world's most fabulous maximalist prepares to release her latest monograph, she pinpoints a few presents perfect for an exuberant dressing room

It’s nearly impossible to overlook in the intoxicating oeuvre of artist Ashley Longshore. A larger-than-life personality, her cheeky artworks practically reverberate off their canvases, capturing a satirical look at pop culture and Pop Art in technicolor glory.

But more so than just a feminist powerhouse and Instagram style setter, she’s blazing new trails by injecting her uplifting aesthetic into unexpected environments, including Bergdorf Goodman’s rotating gallery-cum-restaurant Palette, New York Fashion Week, and The Peninsula Beverly Hills, where she was an artist in residence during the hotel’s 30th anniversary celebration.

Longshore counts a laundry list of powerful people as ardent fans, including fashion icon Diane von Furstenberg, with whom she collaborated on a portrait series to mark International Women’s Day in 2019. Since moving from New Orleans to New York, her sphere of influence has only grown, and her SoHo gallery serves as a joyous hub for local creatives.

On September 17, the multi-hyphenate will release her newest tome, Giving the Bird: Bird Stories by Ashley Longshore (Rizzoli)—not your average ornithology volume, it speaks to the artist’s unique flock with vibrant artworks of birds in flight and equally colorful, expressive language. To celebrate, Galerie asked Longshore to feather her own New York nest, selecting distinct pieces for the ultimate fantasy dressing room.

“I created this limited edition 18k gold ring with my dear friend Lauren Godfrey. It’s so fabulous and the fact that you can actually press the 0.7 carat champagne diamond like a button is genius. It is engraved with one of my favorite sayings: ‘No Pagne No Gain’ and there are only 14 available. This is a ring for the gal who loves champagne, diamonds, and exclusivity!”
