Michael Jordan’s Game 3 1998 NBA Finals Jersey Is Headed to Auction
The game-worn white uniform top from the championship series is the only publicly known example and is expected to fetch up to $15 million
Five years ago, ESPN and Netflix introduced Michael Jordan’s legendary last season with the Chicago Bulls to a new generation of sports fans. The 10-episode docu-series followed the all-time great’s 1997-1998 season with the Bulls, which ended in another NBA Finals championship when Chicago defeated the Utah Jazz four games to two to claim their sixth title in eight years. Jordan’s game-winning jump shot in Game 6 secured an 87-86 victory in what was then the most-watched NBA Finals series in television history.
Now, those who watched it live and those who first discovered the historic run during the 2020 series can own a piece of the magic, as Pharrell Williams’s JOOPITER gets ready to host “Driven to Greatness: Michael Jordan’s 1998 NBA Finals Game 3 Jersey” auction in September. The sale features Jordan’s game-worn white jersey, which is the only publicly known example to ever surface, adding to its rarity. The uniform top features the 1998 NBA Finals Championship patch and is considered one of the most coveted collectibles in sports memorabilia. It has a pre-sale estimate of $10 million to $15 million.
As for Game 3’s significance, the Bulls returned home to Chicago after splitting the opening two games with Utah. That night, in front of an electrified crowd, Jordan recorded 24 points, four rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a block, playing all but 5 minutes in a game that saw the Bulls stun the Jazz with a 96-54 win.
“‘Driven to Greatness’ is about the spirit of someone who changed the way the world saw what was possible in basketball and in sports in general,’” says Williams. “The Last Dance is a piece of history you can hold and is a reminder that the extraordinary can transcend the ordinary.”
The auction opens September 15.
