This New West Village Hot Spot Strikes the Perfect Balance Between Glamorous and Cozy

Designed by BWArchitects, The Golden Swan features an enticing menu from former Bâtard chef Doug Brixton

Opening a neighborhood restaurant in Manhattan’s West Village means living up to a very high bar. Luckily, The Golden Swan strikes just the right balance between glamorous and cozy to make it an instant classic. Much of that mood is thanks to BWArchitects, lauded for its designs for the Beatrice Inn and Monkey Bar, which imbued both the ground-floor bar and the more refined upstairs dining room of the townhouse with a reverence for old New York bolstered by a dose of panache. But the menu, which is as enticing as it is reliable, adds just as much to its appeal. For it, restaurateur Matthew Abramcyk of Tribeca’s beloved Smith & Mills tapped former Bâtard chef Doug Brixton, who lends his deft touch to French and Mediterranean favorites such as Dover sole with sauce meunière, tuna Niçoise, and a duo of lamb.
