Galerie’s Art and Design Gift Guide for Father’s Day 2022

Clothing, kitchen tools, and must-have collectibles are creative ways to celebrate Dad’s special day

1. Vilebrequin

Clothing company Vilebrequin has joined forces with JRP|Editions, a Swiss publisher of contemporary art books, on a series of summer apparel and accessories. The first brand collaboration for the publishing house, the Artists’ Editions translates motifs conjured by Kenny Scharf, Sylvie Fleury, John M. Armleder, Deux Femmes Noires (the collaborative moniker of Mickalene Thomas and Racquel Chevremont) onto swimwear, bucket hats, and beach towels. It’s just the latest collection for the fashion-forward brand, which has featured the work of Derrick Adams, Massimo Vitali, and Alex Israel in earlier iterations.

2. The Met Store

A colorful pair of Mondrian cufflinks adds a pop of color to Dad’s favorite power suit. Made using a decorative enamel, these accoutrements from The Met Store nod to Piet Mondrian’s 1921 “Neo-Plasticism” work Composition that’s included in The Met’s collection.

3. Hudson Grace

For dads who love to entertain, Hudson Grace is a paradise, filled with tableware, sterling silver, and linens in every color of the rainbow. Perfect for the man whose specialty is porterhouses on the grill, this Laiton steak knife set, by French maker Jean Néron, features stainless steel blades set into olive wood handles enhanced with debonair brass details.

4. Jonathan Adler

Jonathan Adler’s sense of playfulness mixed with a dash of naughtiness permeates his vast array of home goods. Amongst his latest offerings are a unique selection of games, including a bold acrylic chess set, colorful collections of playing cards, and a variety of eye-catching backgammon boards, like this graphic M.C. Escher-esque Arcade style.

5. John Derian x Todd Snyder

New York’s favorite decoupage artist has expanded his collection with menswear designer Todd Snyder to offer several new styles of the clothing brand’s signature Camp Collar shirt. Drawing from Derian’s extensive archive of prints, the short sleeve button down now comes in a pattern of paint swatches, as well as designs featuring a collage of nature illustrations or a starry print of Zodiac constellations.

6. illy

When Italian designer Matteo Thun created a cup for coffee company illy in 1991, he launched a relationship that 30 years later now incorporates 114 different collections imagined by such talents as Ai Weiwei, Yoko Ono, Marina Abramović, and many more. This year, the illy Art Collection celebrates with the Venice Biennale and features six styles designed by artists selected by curator Cecilia Alemani. Featured in the Milk of Dreams Biennale Arte 2022 cache are cups rendered by Cecilia Vicuña, Felipe Baeza, Giulia Cenci, Precious Okoyomon, Alexandra Pirici, and Aki Sasamoto.

7. The Glass House

The design store affiliated with the landmark Philip Johnson Glass House site is a treasure trove of cool home goods and collectible objets. This minimalist cork clock, dubbed the Clork naturally, by Ilias Ernst for Netherlands-studio Puik Design, features a simple white metal face and graceful contrasting black hands.

8. Matouk

Matouk’s lightweight cotton Matteo robe comes in five sartorial shades of seersucker. Choose between a bright Peony hue, cool Sea, nautical Azure, bone-colored Natural, and earthy Bark, then add Dad’s monogram for personalized touch.

9. Montblanc

The famed purveyor of collectible writing instruments is paying homage to the first ascent of Mont Blanc, western Europe’s highest peak, with a limited-edition array of pens. Included in the Montblanc High Artistry the First Ascent of the Mont Blanc Limited Edition collection are five intricately crafted designs that celebrate the intrepid mountaineers and the glacial landscape, with carved details commemorating the August 8, 1786 summit. Particularly handsome is the gold Montblanc High Artistry, The First Ascent of the Mont Blanc Limited Edition 86, which is reserved to just 86 pieces. Wrapped in leather and embossed with explorer Jacques Balmat’s diary account of the feat, the fountain pen includes a granite cabochon and a walnut wood cap enhanced with smoky quartz.

10. The Mark x Orlebar Brown

A destination for style-minded travelers, New York’s Mark hotel has teamed up with British clothing brand Orlebar Brown on a chic pair of swim shorts. For the gentleman who uses summer as a verb, these fashion-focused O.B. Bulldog trunks feature a Jean-Philippe Delhomme illustration. Available exclusively at the Mark’s Le Shop, they’ll help Dad stand out in the crowd.

11. Reed Smythe & Co.

14. Artemest

Clear spirits take on a whole new level of appeal when served in this sculptural Alchemica decanter by Italian glassmaker Simone Crestani, whose unique science-inspired creations feature elements culled straight from a cabinet of curiosities, including twisting tentacles, spiky antlers, or sequence of bubbles. Matching Manhattan, martini, wine, and old fashioned glasses are also available.
