Estée Lauder’s Villa in France Lists for $8.7 Million
The self-made beauty magnate developed some of her famous fragrances at the 4,300-square-foot Cannes retreat
The swoon-worthy summer refuge in the South of France where famed cosmetics mogul Estée Lauder dreamed up fragrances is now available for purchase. Overlooking the Mediterranean Sea in an affluent residential area of Cannes dubbed La Californie, the revamped 1920s villa is listed with Hamptons International for around $8.7 million.
The self-made beauty magnate acquired the four-story dwelling, located just a 15-minute stroll to the Promenade de la Croisette, in 1961 with husband Joseph Lauder. The hillside estate would go on to become one of her favorite vacation spots, per her autobiography Estée: A Success Story, and is where the idea for several cosmetic products were germinated.
Lauder used the retreat until her death in 2004, after which her children offloaded it to a buyer who spearheaded a total renovation. Today, the Belle Epoque-style house is spread across 4,300 square feet and offers six bedrooms, six baths, and a home office, as well as an outdoor kitchen area and a detached studio apartment. The manicured grounds also feature formal gardens and heated swimming pool with views that stretch to the Bay of Cannes.
And if the idea of being a non-French buyer is somewhat intimidating, Galerie has a guide for purchasing historically significant real estate in the country, and you can read it here.
