As a result of a $160 million renovation completed in June, “The Del,” as it’s affectionately known, is now more Victorian than ever. Lead-weighted wood windows were restored and corridor ceilings washed haint blue, a period hue said to ward off evil spirits. During the surgically precise demo, teams uncovered an original dry fresco in the vestibule of the Ocean Ballroom and flew in specialists to restore its floral abundance. Reached by either the grand oak staircase or famous birdcage elevator, the 404 Wimberly Interiors–designed rooms share scalloped headboards, chinoiserie lamps, and whimsical botanical wallpaper.
