Dolly Parton’s Former California Cottage Retreat Is on the Market
The late country music icon owned the property for about ten years, often using it as a weekend escape
The tiny cottage that Dolly Parton once used as a weekend escape is on the market for just under $2 million. The Solvang, California, property is being sold as a unique three-unit opportunity, with the lovingly restored cottage in front of two detached accessory dwellings. Cris Lapp, of Black Oak Land and Capital, which owns the property, told Galerie that the team would love to see the property go to a Parton fan.
Parton died in Nashville last month at age 80 after a brief battle with cancer. While she owned homes, an amusement park, and a soon-to-open hotel and museum in Tennessee, her real estate portfolio expanded coast-to-coast. In addition to the Solvang property and various parts of Tennessee, she also purchased homes in Idyllwild, West Hollywood, and New York. But the Solvang property, which dates back to 1920 and features a stained-glass “Dolly” butterfly window above the front door, is where she went to truly escape.
Lapp told the New York Post that Parton would travel to the cottage with her childhood friend Judy Ogle, with strict instructions to the caretaker to provide fresh flowers and Spam. Inside, the home still features southern touches with paintings and hand-knit pillows. There’s also a butterfly-decorated plaque on the white picket fence that confirms the site as Parton’s former home.
The home, located in the heart of downtown Solvang and just down the road from restaurants, wine tasting rooms, shopping, parks, and more, is currently listed for $1,995,000.
