Designed by American architect William Pereira, this 8,161-square-foot residence has hosted Hollywood icons spanning decades, from Marilyn Monroe and Judy Garland to Sir Paul McCartney and Beyoncé
If you were to name a celebrity from the 1950s or 1960s—or for that matter, the 21st century—chances are they’ve been to this L.A.-area home, which is known as Byrdview. The SoCal estate, located on the western edge of the San Fernando Valley in the L.A. suburbs, was commissioned in the 1950s for banking heiress Dora Stillman and her husband, Jody Hutchinson. The property has spent a decade on and off the market, and it’s currently listed for $8 million—a major discount from its original listing price of $21.5 million.
The midcentury modern home was built by notable modernist architect William Pereira, best known for his work throughout California on the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), the Disneyland Hotel, and the Transamerica tower in San Francisco. He was also a key architect who helped define the iconic architecture in Palm Springs. Stillman tapped Pereira to design this now-historic masterpiece, which has remained a staple in Hollywood for more than 70 years. It’s one of the most filmed private locations in the country and has appeared in shows and movies, such as Mad Men, Californication, Swordfish, Six Feet Under, The Last Man on Earth, Dreamgirls, Aquarius, and Beef, as well as Miley Cyrus’s music video for her song “Flowers.”

The walled and gated estate is exceptionally secure and set on nearly 14 acres and is zoned for equestrian or agricultural pursuits. There are 11 separate parcels in the property, which can also be developed into a neighborhood, should a future buyer want to create a private, guard-gated community. Sinatra didn’t own the property, but he rented the home from Stillman during the 1950s and 1960s. The property includes a 6,661-square-foot main house and a 1,120-square-foot guest house with a total of seven bedrooms and nine baths. The home exudes classic midcentury modern architecture with 16-foot walls of glass, concrete floors, many built-in features, and fireplaces. There’s a sun-drenched living room overlooking the pool area, with picture-perfect views of San Fernando Valley on the horizon.
