Roy Lichtenstein’s Former West Village Townhouse Lists for $30 Million

A charming Greek Revival townhouse once belonging to the family of famed Pop artist Roy Lichtenstein has hit the market for just under $30 million. Dating to the 1840s, the four-story dwelling is located on a tree-lined block in the West Village neighborhood of Manhattan and comes with five bedrooms, three full baths, and more than 1,600 square feet of private outdoor space.

The current owners purchased the stately residence in early 2021, when the city’s real estate market was still struggling due to the COVID pandemic. The seller in the off-market deal was Mitchell Lichtenstein, son of the famed artist, who had purchased the home in 1997. That deal was reportedly the first time in the prewar landmark’s history that it had been listed publicly.

The new owners wasted no time sprucing up the place, spearheading a top-to-bottom makeover at a cost of $7 million. Among the upgrades were radiant-heat floors, additional baths, modernized internal systems, and refurbished historic details. A revamped chef’s kitchen features high-end appliances from Wolf, Miele, and Subzero, while extensive structural work was done to open the adjacent sunroom to the tranquil back garden, which comes with a historic water feature from 1900.

In addition to a full-floor primary suite (which is spacious enough to become two bedrooms if the new owners so desire), the home also comes with its own gym of the fourth floor—a rare luxury in the West Village. Add to that an onyx bar, wine cellar, multiple wood-burning fireplaces, and a home office, and it’s clear this might just be the most luxurious family home in all of Lower Manhattan.
