Vram Minassian Introduces Agriculture-Inspired Sculptural Jewels
The Moment V collection, on view in Bergorf Goodman’s 57th Street windows, coincides with VRAM’s tenth anniversary
Bergdorf Goodman’s jewelry windows will soon be styled with exquisite sculptural pieces from Vram Minassian’s Moment V jewelry collection. Moment V follows four earlier chapters in the designer’s “Continuum,” a ten-year journey that began with the birth of his own brand, VRAM, after decades of private label work. His signature “Echo” ring debuted with Moment I; subsequent Movements brought collections created on themes including the origin of the universe, microscopic life forms, prehistoric fossils, and primitive tools. The concepts, he admits, are “very finite from an idea perspective.” For Moment V, Minassian looked to agriculture, using a single seed and a pollinator as inspiration.
“It’s about us having a relationship with nature in the sense that there is a seed and there is something that pollinates that seed—a bee,” he said. But in true VRAM style, both seed and hive forms are abstracted, allowing the wearer to form their own opinion about the stylistic source. “The ideas and the miniature sculptures are very precise,” explained Minassian, whose father and grandfather were both watchmakers and jewelers. “I create my own little secrets within a collection or within a piece,” he revealed. “I put in elements that nobody will notice unless they are told. “ The seed, for example, has a crevice, a sliver of negative space that, Minassian notes, “makes it visually striking and creates a question mark of ‘how was this created?’”
There are 20 pieces in Moment V, all handcrafted in VRAM’s Los Angeles studio. The launch coincides with VRAM’s 10-year anniversary and marks the brand’s return to a major New York retail setting, with the collection on view in Bergdorf Goodman’s Jewelry Salon and 57th Street windows through June. The pieces will be displayed alongside ceramic objects by Peter Lane, a long-time friend of Minassian’s and a Galerie Creative Mind.
