An Oceanfront Property in Montauk with Ties to JFK and Marilyn Monroe Is on the Market for $18 Million
The Stone House was originally constructed in 1912, and later rebuilt in 1991 by designer Tony Ingrao

A historic oceanfront property in Montauk has hit the market for $18 million. Originally built in 1912 and later rebuilt in 1991, the 3.2-acre estate, known as the Stone House, boasts panoramic views that include the Montauk Lighthouse and Block Island.
“It’s like living on your own island with nothing but vistas to the east and magnificent sunrises and moon rises over the ocean,” Kyle Rosko, of Douglas Elliman, tells Galerie. “It’s truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be the steward of one of the most private, rare, and collectible estates in the world.”
Located at 408 Old Montauk Highway, the Stone House features a total of three bedrooms and five bathrooms across 4,027 square feet. It also comes with 178.7 feet of ocean frontage, handmade custom copper windows, masterful stonework, a hand-carved wooden exterior, and more. The home sits on a nearly 70-foot vegetative bluff, which is protected by a rare revetment on the Atlantic Ocean, according to the listing.
Over the years, many notable people have occupied the Stone House, including John F. Kennedy, Marilyn Monroe, Joe DiMaggio, John Lennon, and others. The home is also frequently mentioned in Andy Warhol’s diaries.
The main dwelling consists of two bedrooms and two and a half baths, while the artist’s studio has one bath and a covered porch that faces an idyllic open meadow. Additionally, there is a 186-square-foot pool house, complete with a bathroom, an outdoor shower, and views of a pond-shaped saltwater pool, lined with large stones. It’s bordered by expansive lawns, gardens, and the nearby ocean.
Renowned designer Tony Ingrao is responsible for the aforementioned rebuilding of Stone House, circa 1991. He sought “to preserve the integrity of the original structure but breathe modern conveniences into the living experience,” per the listing.
