Built in 1973 by architect Henrik Bull, this Napa Valley, California, house was updated and expanded by Michael Maltzan Architecture for Suzanne Deal Booth, who named it Bella Oaks, after the adjacent vineyard she acquired. A mural by artist Mungo Thomson using imagery from the Hubble Space Telescope fills the wall of the glassed-in corridor added by Maltzan.

Maltzan worked with engineer Guy Nordenson to devise the aluminum pergola structure featuring a distinctively patterned bentwood cypress top. A custom-made mirror by Sherry Williamson Design, the firm responsible for the home’s interiors, captures reflections of the old olive tree next to the terrace. The table and chairs are Richard Schultz designs for Knoll, and the grass-filled planters are from Greenform.
