Meet the Kips Bay Designer: Christopher Peacock
The esteemed designer crafts the kitchen at the 50th annual Kips Bay Decorator Show House New York

Christopher Peacock launched his career at Terence Conran’s namesake furniture store in London. Following his move to the U.S. for a senior designer position with a luxury British cabinetmaker, he opened his first showroom in Greenwich, Connecticut, featuring his own brand of cabinetry.
Since then, he has opened showrooms throughout the U.S. and abroad; worked on the homes two U.S. presidents, as well as many celebrity clients and captains of industry; and designed the New York Kips Bay Show House kitchen a record eight times.
What was your inspiration for your room at this year’s Kips Bay Decorator Show House New York?
“The vibe of the area dictated the feel for me. The house itself is fascinating—some of the formal rooms are grand and classically detailed, while the kitchen lacked that same architectural language. Rather than impose grandeur where it didn’t belong, I imagined a younger homeowner with means, living in Greenwich Village proper. I wanted the space to reflect a cool, sophisticated energy—elevated, but with an edge. It’s about creating something of the highest caliber that still feels fresh and relevant.”
Tell us about a significant piece that helps shape the mood of your space.
“Truthfully, there wasn’t a single defining piece. I walked into a blank canvas, and the design emerged organically. The atmosphere was built from scratch, layer by layer, with intention and intuition guiding the process.”
How does this project reflect your style—or stretch it?
“My style is my style. I believe in skirting the edges of classical, timeless design without being overly confident. I’m drawn to spaces that are exceptionally built and enduring in quality. That commitment to craftsmanship and longevity is what defines my aesthetic. This room is a continuation of that philosophy—refined, lasting, and quietly sophisticated.”
What does it mean to you to be back at Kips Bay?
“This marks my eleventh Kips Bay room, and I’m as honored today as I was in 1999 when I first participated. There is no greater showhouse. I’m humbled by the talent of my fellow designers and grateful to be part of this legacy. For me, it begins and ends here.”
What does it mean to you to be part of the 50th anniversary?
“It means everything. I owe my career to the Kips Bay Show House. To be part of its 50th year is both a privilege and a responsibility—to honor the past, contribute to the present, and help shape the future. It’s the ultimate gift, and I hope to pay it forward.”
