Louis Vuitton’s Iconic Trophy Trunks Return to America’s Cup
The fashion house presented the Louis Vuitton Cup and Auld Mug in a special ceremony in Barcelona
Louis Vuitton is proud to once again be partnering with the America’s Cup for the 2024 competition, providing its iconic bespoke trunks to house the coveted championship trophies as well as returning as Title Partner of the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup Barcelona. The trophies—the Louis Vuitton Cup and the Auld Mug—were presented in a special ceremony in Barcelona at the end of August.
The Maison has described the partnership as the “melding of two worlds where the art of sailing comes together with refinement, where adventure is inseparable from elegance, and where innovation opens exciting new horizon.”
Housed in a trunk made in the historic Louis Vuitton atelier in Asnières, the Auld Mug is the world’s oldest international sports trophy and has been awarded to every winner of the America’s Cup since 1851. The second trophy, the Louis Vuitton Cup, is presented to the winner of the Challenger’s competition, and dates back to 1983.
The Louis Vuitton Cup challenger races consist of three phases broken into two Round Robin elimination pools, a semi-final and a final, played out through seven winning sets. The winning challenger—which will be announced no later than October 7—will face current America’s Cup defending champion Emirates Team New Zealand.
“It’s with an immense sense of pride that we return to this historical competition as Title Partner,” Pietro Beccari, President and Chief Executive Officer of Louis Vuitton, said in a statement. “Port Vell of Barcelona will be the setting for a display of elegance and power, where teams will compete with boldness, talent and mastery on increasingly innovative yachts. These values equally reflect the spirit of Louis Vuitton and its artisans.”
Louis Vuitton also released a capsule collection celebrating the partnership, which included versatile menswear punctuated with bold primary colors in nautical-meets-sporty designs for shoes, hats, jackets and more.
