Interior Designer Ken Fulk Lists His Napa Valley Ranch for $4.5 Million

The 76-acre Durham Ranch near St. Helena was a 1940s cattle ranch that was transformed into a private sanctuary in California Wine Country

Interior designer Ken Fulk, known for his cinematic, maximalist, and whimsical work, has conceptualized unforgettable spaces for five-star hospitality brands, celebrity residences, and private jets. Now, one of the San Francisco-based designer’s most personal, and perhaps most meaningful, design projects has hit the market: his longtime Napa Valley ranch listed for $4.5 million. The property will be sold turnkey, including furnishings and fixtures, offering a rare opportunity to acquire a one-of-a-kind Fulk-designed residence.

Fulk and his husband, Kurt Wootton, purchased the 76-acre former 1940s cattle ranch in 2005, naming it Durham Ranch after their first golden retriever. They spent years restoring and reimagining the historic property into a serene summer escape for family and close friends. The landscape, filled with ancient oaks, rolling hills, and streams, feels distinctly removed but is a short drive from the town of St. Helena and Napa’s world-class wineries, restaurants, and hotels.

Fulk’s fanciful designs take on a different approach at Durham Ranch, defined less by bold patterns and more by a sense of place. The interiors are rooted in California ranch vernacular, with a Western Americana influence and interpreted through a contemporary lens. The main residence and heart of the compound is a restored 1,250-square-foot cottage with two bedrooms, one bath, and a powder room, along with a screened porch and dining space. Reclaimed materials run throughout, including cabinetry made from historic fence boards and barstools built from salvaged tractor springs.

A nearby 4,500-square-foot steel barn, known as the party barn, features 33-foot-high cathedral-style ceilings and is designed to host events such as weddings and gatherings for up to 200 people. The structure also includes plans for a potential residential conversion.

Further into the property are two safari-style tent cabins perched on a wooden hilltop to accommodate visiting guests. One of the more distinctive features is the “Cowboy Shack,” a small structure Fulk originally designed as part of a traveling exhibition, which is now relocated to the ranch and functions as a Western-themed hideaway and bar. Additional amenities include a 45-by-16-foot heated pool, bocce courts, and access to nearby hiking and cycling trails.

The property is listed with Hillary Ryan of Sotheby’s International Realty in St. Helena.
