Editor in Chief Jacqueline Terrebonne Unveils Galerie’s Collectors Issue
This special late fall edition spotlights extraordinary collections and the people behind them as well as exceptional homes from Martha's Vineyard to New York
A collection may be the ultimate self-portrait. By observing what someone chooses to hunt down and buy, we can see what inspires them, what motivates them, what brings them joy. For this very special issue of Galerie, we take an intimate look at extraordinary collections as well as the people behind them.
Whether it’s cars, jewelry, or art, each subject spotlighted in The Collectors has amassed an inimitable trove. For some, their focus aligns with their careers, such as Paul Boutros, who heads up watches in the Americas for Phillips, and Patrick Perrin, who leads the PAD design fairs. For architectural designer Stephanie Goto, her passion for Champagne guides intriguing collaborations with maisons such as Dom Pérignon. As a result, the collections are just as fascinating as their owners—or perhaps vice versa.
The homes featured in this issue give us a deeper look into how people live with what they collect. A custom bookshelf by Aman & Meeks, who crafted Candia Fisher’s thoughtful home on Martha’s Vineyard, displays a tapestry of her tastes: a Georgia O’Keeffe painting; sculptures by Antony Gormley, Kiki Smith, and Harry Bertoia; a Line Vautrin mirror; and an “O” Ed Ruscha signed “to Emily love Ed,” a reminder of her late mother, Emily Fisher Landau, the great collector whose estate is set to hit the block at Sotheby’s this November. Art adviser Erica Samuels does what many devoted collectors do, constantly switching works out as part of an ongoing parade of genius and beauty that transforms the feel of a room each time.
Perhaps Timothy Corrigan, the interior designer whose trove of portraits is seen on the cover, articulated it best. When I interviewed him for The Collectors, he suggested collections are “an unconscious window into who we are.” So together, in this issue—let’s take a peek.
