Designer Ghislaine Viñas Shares Her Valentine’s Day Gift List
Her love of rich colors and unbridled zest for personality-filled design influences a spirited assortment of touching sentiments
Crafting color-drenched residences from coast to coast, designer Ghislaine Viñas cultivates inspired rooms that layer candy-colored furnishings with pattern-forward textiles and cheeky collections of art. Her own upstate New York home is a masterclass in layering artisan details with Scandinavian reserve, and it’s a zest for artful living that she imparts on her clients, helping transform spaces with delightful, one-of-a-kind details.
Viñas also orchestrates a number of award-winning product collections, which means she knows a beautiful home item when she sees one. Here, the Netherlands-born, South Africa-raised creative shares the expressive accessories and accents on her Valentine’s Day list.
1. NDP55 Tapestry by Nathalie Du Pasquier
“Nathalie Du Pasquier is one of my favorite designers working today. Her sense of color, scale, proportion, and vibrancy is second to none, and I love the sophisticated joy included in everything she designs.”
2. Camper Traktori Boots
“I can’t remember when I got my first pair of Camper boots, but it certainly wasn’t my last. For the past 20 years they’ve been my go-to shoe; I was immediately drawn to their aesthetic, color, and the quality of the Spanish maker, and you’ll seldom see me without them.”
3. Parrot Table Lamp by Lladró
“Lladró is a classic, and this lamp brings me so much joy with its kitsch charm juxtaposed with the fresh coral hue. Animals always find their way into the homes I design, and these parrots are utterly unapologetic in their presence.”
4. The Wing Scarf by Vík Prjónsdóttir
“My husband bought me this scarf a couple of years ago, and everything about it fits me like a glove. It speaks to my inner Pippi Longstocking.”
5. Terra Kaffe Espresso Machine
“I’ve been married for over 30 years, and my husband, Jaime, brings me a cup of coffee in bed every morning. As if that weren’t good enough, it only got better when we got a Terra Kaffe espresso machine, which makes the best coffee I could ask for.”
6. Xanthe Somers, Take a Look At Yourself, 2024
“Discovering Xanthe, a talented Zimbabwean artist, has made what I already consider a really fun job even more fun. Her work has a relaxed, playful attitude through unexpected scale and color—absolutely delightful!”
7. USM Haller Mid Credenza
“USM is so universal and timeless; it fits in any interior and is especially striking when paired with antiques. I’ve recently become slightly obsessed and can’t imagine a project without at least one USM piece in it.”
8. Mill Food Recycler
“If there were ever an appliance that sparks happiness, this is it. The Mill is probably the most-used appliance in my home and there’s something deeply satisfying about watching food scraps transform into nourishing compost for my garden.”
9. Collage Lamp by Kiki x Joost
“I first saw this lamp at Dutch design week a few years back and am thrilled we recently placed it in a project. I love the juxtaposition of the traditional base with an industrial tube light, decorated with ‘intuitive scribbles from sleepless nights.’”
10. Tit Lamp by Studio Job
“I’m not sure why glass blown wall sconces in the shapes of breasts are so utterly appealing to me, but there are few sconces that delight me as much as these.”
