Dior’s Kim Jones Curates Sotheby’s Latest Sale
The March 6 auction will include works by David Hockney, Simone Leigh, George Condo, and Joan Mitchell
Since Kim Jones’s appointment as artistic director of Dior Homme in 2018, he has found creative ways to collaborate with contemporary artists for his collections. Among these swoonworthy interventions are the futuristic pastel pink runway that Daniel Arsham created for the summer 2020 collection and a series of shirts and knitwear embroidered with works by Raymond Pettibon for his fall 2019 presentation. It’s fitting, then, that Sotheby’s tapped Jones to select some of his favorite pieces for its upcoming auction Contemporary Curated. Held in New York, the March 6 sale will encompass seven decades of work, including pieces by Joan Mitchell, Simone Leigh, George Condo, Yoshitomo Nara, and Wayne Thiebaud. An exhibition of the works will be on view at the auction house’s Manhattan headquarters from February 28 through March 5.
