Halloween is a glorious time for fun kitsch, but it can be so much more. There are artful offerings that put a sophisticated spin on “spooky season,” including for those who celebrate Day of the Dead. From travel to pastries to setting a delightfully eerie table, there are a slew of “boo-tiful” possibilities as October builds to one of the most fun holidays of the year.

1. Limited Edition “Boo Bears” | Lysee

Chef Eunji Lee, known for combining South Korean elements with classic French pastry methods, has created a selection of five adorable and delicious teddy-bear-themed “Boo Bears.” She used ingredients such as hazelnut, marshmallow, and dulcey-chocolate maple, and there is even a limited-edition Frankenstein pistachio bear.

2. L.U.C Full Strike “Día de los Muertos” Edition 13 | Chopard

This one-of-a-kind timepiece from Chopard is the latest in its limited editions celebrating the Day of the Dead. It features a blue calavera skull design with segments eerily open to reveal the inner workings. Crafted in 18-carat gold, it utilizes eggshell marquetry for the blue skull design. “By associating an exceptional chiming complication with rare decorative crafts, the unique L.U.C Full Strike “Día de los Muertos” Edition 13 celebrates both the richness of Mexican culture and the remarkable talents of our artisans who perpetuate these precious skills,” says Chopard Co-President Karl-Friedrich Scheufele.

3. Fiesta De Todos Los Santos | Hotel Esencia

Fiesta de Todos los Santos is an elegant celebration of Mexico’s Day of the Dead traditions at Hotel Esencia, a beachfront retreat on the Riviera Maya, which will be hosted by owner Kevin Wendle. It brings together Mexican folklore, contemporary design, gastronomy, and traditional rituals honoring the departed, and runs October 30–November 1. The centerpiece of the offering is an Ofrenda installation created by artist Marcel Dzama, who told Galerie, “I have such reverence and deep respect for the people of Mexico, and I hope that I was able to do justice to their culture and traditions. When I first learned of Día de los Muertos, it resonated deeply. The idea that you can honor and remember your ancestors and loved ones that have passed is magical. Hotel Esencia has always felt like a sanctuary place that I’ve been lucky to go to.”

This restrained take on the pumpkin will be welcome year-round. The Elsa Perretti Pumpkin Box can store jewelry and knickknacks, and looks lovely on a dresser or shelf. Like much of Peretti’s work, it demonstrates her fascination with organic forms.

6. Haas Brothers Fox Salad Monster Serving Bowl | L’Objet

The Haas Brothers are known for their irreverently fantastical creations that blur the borders between fine art and functionality. Their collaboration with L’Objet launched to acclaim in 2019. The Monster Salad Bowl, a part of that collection, enters the uncanny valley (coincidentally, “Uncanny Valley” is the name of their 2025–2027 traveling show) quite playfully, with its plump pale blue-green body and inward-turned gold feet.

7. Halloween Getaway | Edinborough’s The Witchery

Set within historic buildings on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, The Witchery by the Castle delivers a Gothic setting for a Halloween retreat. The hotel offers nine suites furnished with velvet draperies, antiques, and four-poster beds, while its seasonal pumpkin displays add another theatrical flourish. Just steps away, the Witches’ Well commemorates those persecuted for witchcraft centuries ago, and the streets of the Old Town have a medieval, ghostly feel to them. Visitors can explore the city’s subterranean vaults on a guided tour or browse Scottish craftsmanship and distinctive gifts at the Witchery Shop.

New York-based découpage master John Derian and French ceramic house Astier de la Villatte have been producing beautifully whimsical tableware together since 2011. The Halloween-themed chapter of the partnership features designs with spider webs, skulls, bats, séances, and more.

9. Memento Mori | Faena New York

Halloween takes a glamorous turn with Memento Mori at Faena New York, a two-night event inspired by the ancient traditions of contemplating mortality. On October 30 and 31, the West Chelsea hotel’s Living Room will welcome costumed partygoers with live music, theatrical entertainment, and dancing, with festivities lasting until 2 a.m. Guests can begin the night with dinner at La Boca, the hotel’s Argentine restaurant from chef Francis Mallmann. For those looking to extend the occasion, the hotel’s A Faena Halloween experience is available for stays from October 29 through November 1, and includes two general admission tickets to one evening’s event, a Halloween-inspired welcome gift, and daily breakfast for two at La Boca.

10. Civette Vases | Fornasetti

The wide-eyed owls on Fornasetti’s Civet Vases are beguilingly eldritch, while the proportion and iconic Fonasetti style keep them refined. The larger red vase is in a cheerful warm that does not scream “trick or treat,” although the owl’s eyes are a Halloween-appropriate amber orange. The smaller, simpler cylindrical white vase is under nine inches in height, while the larger measures twelve. Both vases have different owl designs all around, so put them somewhere with a 360-degree view.
