Faena New York’s Premier Suite Dazzles with a Bold Palette and Visually Arresting Work of Art
The hotel’s marquee accommodation taps into the creative energy of the city with a grand piano, custom rugs with starburst patterns, vibrant paintings, and more
When Faena New York burst onto Manhattan’s hotel scene last year, it put an exclamation point on an already vibrant section of Chelsea. On the neighborhood’s far west edges, the Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG)–designed towers gracefully curve around the High Line, slicing the skyline near other sculptural buildings by Thomas Heatherwick and Zaha Hadid.
Naturally, such a remarkable exterior required an equally impressive interior—and Faena answered in dramatic fashion, with a striking mural by artist Diego Gravinese wrapping the entry “cathedral,” a glamorous Living Room lounge, as well as La Boca, a restaurant reverberating with bright red, shimmering gold, and electric animal print. That propensity for rich colors, Art Deco details, and eye-popping works of art carries all the way up to the seventh and eighth floors, where The Faena Suite welcomes guests into a 3,000-square-foot, three-bedroom oasis. “I designed the suite inspired by my own home here, filled with light, white, and gold. Then we layered it with the red, with the passion, with the life force of Faena,” says hotelier Alan Faena, who called upon his “collaboratory” of interior experts, including designer Peter Mikic, to help shape the space.
“We wanted the suite to feel sophisticated, sexy, and really luxurious,” adds Mikic. “There was a strong focus on fabrics and textures.”
To that effect, walls are covered in an incandescent moiré wallpaper, while the beds are topped by headboards crafted from eucalyptus wood and accented with brass. Undulating waves of velvet curtains frame windows that offer epic panoramas across the city to the Hudson River.
Tierra (2025) and Mar (2025) by Cynthia Cohen—works depicting faceted rubies in a nod to the hotelier’s daughter—add a chromatic shock to the main living area, dressed primarily in shades of cream and marigold.
“New York is the city of dreams, always alive with the energy of people who come here to create, to transform, to become who they are meant to be,” says Faena. “We let that energy pour into us and gave it back through the art, the color, the music, the feeling that something extraordinary is possible here.”
