10 of the Most Sumptuous Stays for Pets Around the World
From diamond-clad collars to sound bowl therapy and spa treatments, these spots go far beyond typical dog treats and toys
Designer brands continue hopping on the pet bandwagon with everything from Hermès plush orange pet tents (dubbed doghouses) to Louis Vuitton’s collection of puppy puffer jackets, luggage-inspired carriers, and bone-shaped trunks—which, of course, carry a duo of dog bowls. Pets have long been a celebrity fixture (take Karl Lagerfeld and his fashionable Choupette or, more recently, Formula 1 driver Charles Leclerc and his miniature dachshund, Leo), but now amenities at luxury hotels are becoming as lavish for furry travelers as they are for their pet parents.
Galerie has rounded up 10 truly spectacular spots where concierge service extends to four-legged guests, gourmet room service is courtesy of some of the world’s top-starred chefs, and even the brand of water at the “dog bar” is heavily considered.
1. Baccarat Hotel New York
In New York, dogs already receive celebrity status with wardrobes and dog walkers akin to personal assistants, and at Baccarat Hotel New York, their stay comes along with a personalized accessory: a diamond-studded collar. Part of a new collaboration with The D Diamond New York offered exclusively at Baccarat Hotel, the “Canine Couture Diamond Experience” includes a champagne-fueled, in-room consultation (for the owner, of course) where guests can curate a tailor-made, 18K-gold collar accented by a ruby charm reminiscent of Baccarat’s signature shade.
2. Hotel Byblos | Saint-Tropez, France
Saint-Tropez is receiving even more buzz than usual this summer since the swish seaside locale is the soon-to-be star of the next season of The White Lotus. Hotel Byblos doesn’t need the fanfare—the legendary hotel (Brigitte Bardot is one of its godmothers) has been a nightlife icon thanks to Les Caves du Roy since opening in the ‘60s with celebrities like Mick and Bianca Jagger honeymooning in one of its suites, which further cemented its status. The latest addition is a series of eight new, blue-toned suites designed by Laura Gonzalez, including three duplexes where pups practically claim their own floor. A pet version of “Do Not Disturb” signs are dangled on guestroom doors, and Byblos-branded bowls and beds can be brought to any of the outdoor restaurants and bars, so dogs dine on chef-curated custom menus in true style.
3. Le Toiny in St. Barth
At Le Toiny, the owners’ dachshund, Elsie, is both a mascot and model, sporting one of the custom Smathers & Branson collars designed exclusively for the property—and, thanks to matching leashes and needlepoint belts, owners and pups can match. Chef Eric Desbordes, who has helmed kitchens everywhere from Le Bristol Paris to Four Seasons Bora Bora, also oversees the pet menu—which includes local fish and gourmet steak hâché—that’s served in a custom dog bowl in the hotel’s 22 ocean-facing villa suites (complete with private pools, of course). On Tradewind, pets under 100 pounds can even fly alongside guests in the cabin (and travel complimentary), so they’ll have just as luxe an experience from start to finish.
4. The Plaza Hotel | New York
Playing host to pets for more than a century, The Plaza Hotel was New York’s first to allow pups (and it’s among the few to cater to pets of any size). The concierge team are on call to assist with anything from a new bottle of Evian to a refill of yogurt-filled, dog-friendly macarons displayed on a silver tier as decadent as what guests would find at the hotel’s afternoon tea. In addition to Plaza-emblazoned amenities and toys, there’s one item that makes a stay here perfect for sharing on Instagram—pet-sized bathrobes that can be tailored to fit toy poodles and Pomeranians or larger breeds like Rottweilers and Siberian huskies.
5. Coquillade Provence | France
At village-inspired Coquillade Provence, surrounded by lavender fields and vines in what was once an 11th-century hamlet, some suites come complete with doggy pools perfect for cooling down during the region’s warm summers. An arrival kit is stocked with all the necessities—pet basket, organic treats—plus French touches like a Coquillade Provence scarf and lavender-scented pillow spray. VIP room service includes three, nutrition-focused K9 Sommelier menu options, including the slow-cooked beef and herb provençal bowl, and guests can explore the estate’s hundred-plus acres of forest paths following pet-friendly trails marked on dedicated maps.
6. Sea Island | Georgia
Sprawling along the coast of Georgia, Sea Island’s tucked-away coastal cottages and English manor-inspired rooms at The Lodge blend the best Southern charm and European elegance (there’s even a bagpiper playing traditional Scottish serenades). Keeping in theme, Sea Island’s Dapper Dogs program partners with British countryside-chic brand Barbour. Rooms are outfitted with Tartan-patterned quilted dog beds and matching harnesses, and guests can visit The Best-in-Breed Borrowing Closet by Barbour for matching quilted coats or Tartan ponchos on loan. Follow the property’s walking maps, which highlight the best spots to pause for a photo session, then enjoy some “Paw-t Roast” veal essence-braised beef tips or grilled chicken breast “Canine Casserole” from the new Bone Appétit in-room pet menu.
7. Hôtel de Crillon, A Rosewood Hotel | Paris
Primely placed on central Place de la Concorde, Hôtel de Crillon, A Rosewood Hotel sits within walking distance of dog-friendly parks and gardens, like the Jardin du Palais-Royal, and cafés serving doggy drinks, menus, and even monthly brunches. As for the Parisian institution, farm-fresh poultry and beef tenderloin with pasta can also be ordered in the comfort of one’s room. Biarritz brand Maison Txaku provides all-natural dog treats, which are part of each pet’s selection of welcome amenities, along with a bedside rug and grooming product-filled personalized pouch by Nordic Nocat Studio.
8. Paws Up Montana
One of the country’s premier luxury dude ranches, Paws Up Montana dates back to the state’s gold mining days and counts aviator Charles Lindbergh’s sons as past residents and cattle ranchers. The 37,000-acre ranch is teeming with adventure, from whitewater rafting and canoeing to hiking—with more than 30 miles of pet-friendly trails alone (and if guests would rather go fly fishing or horseback riding, the team offers dog walks and hikes). Sleep between the pines in one of the dozen, adults-only design hauses, a mix of contemporary, glass-encased cabins and modern treehouses with floors connected by a spiral staircase. Wellness here also embraces pets, with Wag the Tail massages performed in spa tents and sound bowl therapy open to four-legged friends.
9. Bardessono Hotel & Spa in Napa Valley
Longevity is a concept that now extends to pets, and spots like Bardessono Hotel & Spa in Napa Valley are following suit with spruced-up pet beds from HigherDOSE equipped with pulsed electromagnetic field therapy and infrared heat designed to help soothe sore muscles and reduce anxiety. As part of the Paws & Reflect pet spa service, the in-room experience includes a doggie spa robe and CBD dog chews, so even your pet will be in pure zen mode on vacation. Farm-to-table signature restaurant Lucy hosts Monday Yappy Hour and serves up a dog menu of chicken apple sausage, eggs and bacon, and spinach on the outdoor patio. While human guests receive a bottle of local Cabernet Sauvignon on arrival, the hotel also offers a curated guide to nearby pet-friendly wineries like Napa Cellars and Pine Ridge Vineyards, so dogs too can enjoy a Napa Valley wine country getaway.
10. Bulgari Hotel Paris
Paris’s upper echelon Palace properties like Bulgari Hotel Paris have proved that six-star treatment can extend beyond guests and standout services like Berluti shoe care. The dedicated Bulgari Pet Club ensures stays are equipped with plush amenities like seasonally shifting beds, blankets, and bowls for feasts that are the pup equivalent to three Michelin-starred Niko Romito’s Il Ristorante—plus gourmet treats and personalized amenities. Pets can even curl up in one of the stylish, Bulgari-branded snow-white teepees.
