12 Must-Have Raffia Accessories to Add to Your Summer Wardrobe
Keep your warm weather look natural with these chic items
There seems to be some confusion on the difference between raffia, wicker and rattan, and most assume that because all are typically woven when used, they are the same thing. However, for those in the know, raffia specifically comes from Raffia palm leaves, which are found in Africa especially in Madagascar, with one species sourced in Central America and South America, while wicker comes from the stalks of different plant origins such as willow, rattan, reed, and bamboo. Raffia palms can grow up to approximately 17 yards high, and the raffia fiber is taken from the leaves. It is a wonderful material to work with especially in textiles as it can be dyed.
Given its tropical origin, raffia is most popularly associated with the warm seasons of the year and climates with hot weather. This Spring/Summer is no different, and many fashion companies are featuring the textured weave across different mediums. From a men’s blazer by Dolce & Gabbana to the most adorable sneakers by Lanvin, there are ample opportunities to wear this naturally derived craft. We’ve rounded up some of our favorites that we think will look stellar added to any ensemble.
