This month marks the debut of Gudrun—an exquisite collection of decorative and dinnerware ranges for Vista Alegre and Bordallo Pinheiro by Claudia Schiffer. Drawing on her roots in the German countryside and more recently, in England, the complimentary collections are informed by nature, and specifically, the rich shades of autumn. “‘Gudrun’ was my late mother’s name and this collection is dedicated to my childhood memories of her; watching squirrels from my bedroom window, collecting acorns, listening to woodpeckers and falling asleep to birdsong,” says Schiffer, of this extremely personal project.

On view for the first time at Maison et Objet in Paris, the 7-piece porcelain dinnerware range for Vista Alegre is inspired by heritage craftsmanship and incorporates oak leaves, acorns and a palette of lush, greens, browns, ochre and crimson. “I designed these pieces,” explains Schiffer of the dinner plates, soup, bread plates, teapot, teacups and saucers ensemble, “to work well with the mid-century wooden tables in my home in the English countryside, and to bring those warm fall hues into my home.”

The Bordallo Pinheiro part of the collaboration marks only the second time the two storied brands have worked together in their 200-year history. The hand-painted ceramic pieces for Bordallo Pinheiro pair perfectly with the Vista Alegre dinnerware and feature woodland animals including foxes and birds among the array of water jugs, serving platters and acorn boxes that add a fall flourish to any tablescape. “I don’t entertain a lot, but when I do, I think through every item,” says Schiffer of her approach to design elements “that make the table look more interesting and beautiful.”

The “Gudrun” pieces will be available in store from October, and have already been deemed a success by Nuno Barra, Board Member of Vista Alegre and Bordallo Pinheiro. In the words of Nuno Barra, Board Member of Vista Alegre and Bordallo Pinheiro, “This collection is very special for us. Firstly, it’s a privilege to work with Claudia Schiffer; we started our collaboration with ‘Cloudy Butterflies,’ and this whole process has been extremely seamless,” he says. Claudia has her own vision filled with ideas based on many themes that she has experienced throughout her extraordinary career. Furthermore, it’s always a challenge to bring together the two brands—Vista Alegre and Bordallo Pinheiro and the result has exceeded our expectations!”
