1. Michelin-Starred Dumpling Restaurant Designed by Rockwell Group Opens in Midtown Manhattan

As far as chain restaurants go, no opening has been more anticipated in New York than Din Tai Fung. This cult status, Taiwanese-based dumpling has finally opened its doors in midtown Manhattan. To live up to the Michelin-starred, flavor-packed bao and wontons, the restaurant turned to Rockwell Group for the transportive design. The glass cube entrance sets the scene as guests travel down a marble staircase to the 25,000 square-foot interior, which includes a layout inspired by a Chinese home with a series of bamboo gardens and courtyards. In true Rockwellian fashion, the massive space is carved into smaller areas that make for cozier, more convivial dining areas, which are accented with theatrical accents in a nod to its Broadway location. —Jacqueline Terrebonne

2. Final Weeks to See Cartier’s “Artist Meets Artisan” Collaboration with Jean-Michel Alberola in SoHo

Ten years ago, Cartier launched a bold new art series in which the leftover cuts of precious stones and metals from the maison’s high-jewelry collections are given new life by some of the world’s top contemporary artists. Dubbed “Artist Meets Artisan,” the ongoing series, which was developed in collaboration with the Fondation Cartier pour l’Art Contemporain, has included the likes of Alessandro Mendini, David Lynch, Takeshi Kitano, and Beatriz Milhazes. Now, through August 4,  Cartier has unveiled an exciting new collaboration with the celebrated Paris-based artist Jean-Michel Alberola. Titled “Precision of Opposites,” the installation is on view at the Cartier boutique in SoHo, New York. Given the unique opportunity to draw on the expertise and craftsmanship of the highly skilled artisans in the Cartier atelier, Alberola produced the complex commissioned work in 2018, which is made up of four separate pieces, as well as a painted wall that represents the surface of the moon. After all, as the artist believes, the moon is a big universal rock in the sky. —Lucy Rees

3. Explora I Installs a New Collection of Artworks by Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein

When Explora Journeys made their splashy New York debut in December 2023, the inaugural cruise ship Explora I dazzled with its sophisticated interiors peppered with glamorous moments of aesthetic splendor. While decadent suites enveloped guests in quiet luxury, the ship’s more public spaces turned up the volume. However, one of the vessel’s more culturally defining areas was the Galleria d’Arte, which presented thoughtfully curated installations of artworks. Currently filling the sinuous display areas are a selection of works by Pop masters Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, which join the permanent installation of a library by British-Nigerian artist Yinka Shonibare. On view through spring 2025 are Brushstroke (1965) and I Love Liberty (1982) by Lichtenstein, as well as an array of Warhol’s iconic Campbell’s Soup cans, and the artist’s Superman (1981), Apple (1985), and Moonwalk (1987). “Art has always been one of the main focal points of the guest experience on board our ships,” says Koray Savas, Vice President Hotel Operations Explora Journeys. “The carefully curated art selection features a blend of renowned and emerging artists, alongside master artisans, creating an immersive art experience for guests throughout their journey.”—Jill Sieracki
