Windsor Grows Annual Design Event with Gallery Tour, Trunk Shows, and More

The picturesque South Florida community, crafted around the ideals of the New Urbanism movement, hosts a multifaceted cultural gathering to support the community's namesake foundation

With its oceanfront setting, picture-perfect houses, emerald green polo field, and manicured 18-hole golf course, Windsor is about an Edenic setting as one can imagine. The planned neighborhood near Vero Beach, Florida—the vision of W. Galen and Hilary M. Weston—celebrates art and architecture at every turn with an eye towards sustainability, privacy, and community.

Here, Anglo-Caribbean style homes stand in perfect alignment along tree-lined streets, where residents traveling by bicycle or golf cart wave hello en route to the Yabu Pushelberg-designed Clubhouse, visit friends in the Alessandra Branca-conceived guest suites or Beach Club, or enjoy programming in the picturesque Town Hall.

While cultural events for residents happen all season long, the annual three-day Windsor Style design celebration, held this year April 10 to 12, opens the doors to a multitude of spaces on the stunning campus to benefit the Windsor Charitable Foundation, a philanthropy that raises funds for local and national charities that support basic human needs such as food, shelter, health, children’s education, medical research, animal advocacy, and more. For this year’s gathering, Windsor members were treated to a panel discussion in the Town Hall, “Art, Design, and Landscape at Windsor: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow.”

Moderated by Hadley Keller, director of editorial and community engagement at the Design Leadership Network and author of Beachside: Windsor Architecture and Design (Vendome), the conversation featured art adviser Aileen Agopian, landscape designer Renée Byers, and Galerie Executive Managing Editor Jill Sieracki, as well as interior designers Ellen Hamilton, Melissa Lindsay, and Jean Liu—many whose work can be seen within Windsor.

Following the conversation, guests enjoyed a selection of Dry Farm Wines in The Gallery at Windsor where they took in the exhibition “Left Hand, Right Hand” featuring the work of husband-and-wife artists Christopher Le Brun and Charlotte Verity.

The following day, golf carts rolled throughout the community for a five-stop house and garden tour, opening with the expansive eight-bedroom residence by Gaillard Design. Other stops along the parade included an airy retreat orchestrated by Suzu Neithercut that marries the South Florida location with the homeowner’s Japanese heritage, a five-bedroom South Village home crafted to maximize indoor-outdoor living, and a convivial family getaway outfitted by Jamie Roddy of EdenLA Interiors. The tour culminated at the Concierge Butterfly Garden, a beautiful hideaway shaped by Windsor members Dana Hutton and Janel Griffin with more than 75 different plantings specifically selected to attract Monarch, Swallowtail, and other types of butterflies.

Also part of the event’s programming was a stirring presentation by James Brayton Hall, president and CEO of The Garden Conservancy, who shared details on the organization’s incredible work preserving this country’s celebrated landscapes, including their current initiatives in New York State. Then, on Saturday, the heart of the Village Centre was transformed into an alfresco bazaar with colorful frocks by Tori Brown and Really Wild, outwear by Marfa Stance, children’s clothing from Florence Eiseman, home goods from Oodles of Wallpaper, fine art by Lydia McKee, porcelain and ceramics by Tania Bulhōes, and jewelry from LSC Design Estate Jewelry and Yenden.

This was the first year for the Windsor Style Trunk Show and from the look of the enthusiastic crowd milling about the gardens under a cloudless blue sky, it’ll be an eagerly anticipated addition to this grand celebration of art, design, and community living.
