Waldorf Astoria New York Transforms Its Iconic Grand Ballroom into a Tennis Court
As fans gear up for the 146th edition of the US Open, one of the city’s historic landmarks is making the most of the moment with an exciting twist
The Waldorf Astoria New York’s legendary Grand Ballroom has hosted award ceremonies, Met Galas, high-profile political dinners, and royal celebrations, but later this month it will swap out its iconic venue for an unusual surprise: a tennis court. In a one-night-only event on August 27, men’s and women’s tennis stars including Tommy Paul, Maria Sakkari, Ben Shelton, and Leylah Fernandez will take to the court set beneath dazzling chandeliers and Art Deco flourishes as part of a moment that marks the debut of Waldorf Astoria Racquet Club.

The new venture seeks to connect racquet enthusiasts with extraordinary hospitality and exciting new destinations. The platform builds on Waldorf Astoria’s robust portfolio of courts around the world, appealing to the culturally curious players, spectators, and travelers. For the exclusive kickoff event, officially titled The Ballroom Tennis Invitational, attendees will take in the showcase while enjoying Champagne, tennis-inspired cocktails, and sumptuous dining prepared by James Beard Award-winning chef Michael Anthony, including interactive chef stations and exclusive limited-time offerings.
