The Independent Art Fair is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year. Conceived in 2009 by Elizabeth Dee, Darren Flook, Matthew Higgs, and Laura Mitterrand, it launched the next year with a gathering of similarly minded commercial and nonprofit galleries. The invitational fair, which takes place at Spring Place, is known for offering an exhibition-like experience and for having a slightly clubby atmosphere. On opening day, Galerie‘s editors caught up with cofounder and CEO Elizabeth Dee, as well as art dealers Javier Peres of Berlin’s Peres Projects, Emma Robertson of London’s The Approach, and Monique Meloche, of the renowned Chicago gallery.
