Pharrell Williams Introduces Stunning Tiffany & Co. Collaboration Featuring Freshwater Pearls
The new additions draw inspiration from the artist’s Virginia Beach upbringing as well as the trident of Poseidon, represented by a diamond spear motif
Tiffany & Co. introduced dazzling new freshwater pearl designs from the Tiffany Titan by Pharrell Williams Collection on Tuesday, with the new pieces elegantly honoring the singer’s Virginia Beach upbringing. While Williams’s initial 19-piece capsule launch in May featured 18k yellow gold or black titanium in all-metal and diamond iterations, the latest additions include high-luster freshwater pearl and diamond pieces set in necklaces, bracelets, rings, and earrings.
The singer—who has stated “jewelry is the punctuation mark of a person”—elaborated on the inspiration behind the new pieces, with the trident of Poseidon, ancient Greek god of the sea and King of Atlantis, playing a central role and being represented by a diamond motif. Atlantis is also the name of the beach community where Williams was raised.
“The inspiration of the collection comes from my affinity with the water; and the name of the collection, ‘Titan,’ draws influence from Poseidon, ruler of the sea, King of Atlantis,” Williams said in a statement. “In Japan, it was believed that pearls were created from the tears of mythical water creatures; so I naturally gravitated towards them as a means of expressing this connection to the water.”
Tiffany & Co. has a long history of designing with pearls, dating as far back to the seed-pearl suite that President Abraham Lincoln gift his wife at the 1862 inaugural ball.
The new pieces feature a diamond spear motif, with pearls of over 11 millimeters forming distinctive silhouettes. According to the luxury jeweler, the spear is meant to symbolize fearless individuality, and is juxtaposed by a uniquely shaped link that is curved and soft, portraying a dialogue between tension, proportion and balance. The designs, Tiffany & Co., said, illustrate the House’s commitment to creative excellence.
