Tiffany & Co. Celebrates Creative Spirit of French Sculptor César with Tableware Collection
The latest offerings include dessert plates, espresso cups with saucers, spoons, and more that elevate any tea service
Tiffany & Co. is honoring the creative and inventive sprit of French sculptor César with a new tableware and home objects collection that, according to the specialty design house, pays tribute to the artist’s unique vocabulary. The offerings, including dessert plates, espresso cups with saucers, spoons, and more, feature three archival designs crafted by porcelain atelier Le Tallec in the 1970s and reimagined in the “broken plate” style designed by César in 1973.
The Tiffany & Co x Fondation César collection, crafted under the direction of Lauren Santo Domingo, artistic director of Tiffany Home, is meant to blend and break “all the rules and codes” in the spirit of César and Tiffany & Co. As such, the plates feature a solid color that accentuates the mosiac and a bottom layer in Tiffany Blue.
César, who was at the forefront of Nouveau Réalisme, is well-known for his sculptures of industrial scrap metal and vehicles that collectively came to be called Compressions. He is also recognized internationally for semi-organized sculptural spills called Expansions. His work is featured in several permanent collections at museums worldwide including the Museum of Modern Art, Tate Gallery, and the National Gallery of Art.
