RH London Opens Inside a Historic 18th-Century Palladian Mansion in Mayfair
Step inside the immersive five-story retail and hospitality concept, complete with ornate original ironwork and bespoke artistic installations
RH London opened the doors to The Gallery in Mayfair last week, unveiling an immersive five-story retail and culinary experience set inside a landmark 18th-century Palladian mansion. Under the creative vision of RH Chairman and CEO Gary Friedman, together with architectural firm Foster + Partners, the building that was once Queensberry House, and then later Uxbridge House, and then Bank of England, is now home to an exquisite emporium with furnishings by the world’s most talented artists, designers, and artisans.
Visitors to the flagship enter first through the Architecture & Design Library, which features rare books by Italian and British masters including Leonardo da Vinci and Sir Christopher Wren. Elsewhere, on levels accessed by a scenic glass lift in collaboration with Foster + Partners, or Italian-born architect Giacomo Leoni’s original grand stair with ornate ironwork and limestone steps, guests can experience the latest collections from RH Estates, which features renowned artisans and designs including Michael Taylor, Dennis & Leen, and Dmitriy & Co.. RH Interior Design is also available for those seeking bespoke guidance.
In The World of RH Bar & Lounge, visitors can take in a 360-degree holographic display showcasing the spaces that define the brand while relaxing in a space designed by Anouska Hempel. Elsewhere, a Tea Salon and Wine Bar serve classic specialty teas and Champagnes and wines from around the world, with each space in the five-story experience chock-full of artistic installations of furniture, antiques, artifacts, and artwork.
The space also offers several dining options. At The Dining Room at RH London, guests sit underneath a luminous gold leaf ceiling within a former historic banking hall. The restaurant, inspired by private members’ clubs, features tiered chandeliers of hand-blown Venetian glass and champagne-lacquered Roman columns, and offers a curated menu of caviar specialties, signature salads, seafood towers, and an array of American and British classics.
There’s also The Perch by Anouska Hempel, a rooftop garden accessed by the lift and designed as a sensory dining experience with a canopy of pleated Tuuci umbrellas and towering arched mirrors with sparkling water channels set above Savile Row.
The grand opening was celebrated with an exquisite evening this weekend attended by stars including Margot Robbie, Theo James, Henry Cavill, Janet Jackson, India Hicks, Emma Thynn, Poppy Delevingne, and more.
