Leica cameras have long been synonymous with elegance and quality, a favorite tool of both discerning photographers and journalists who value precision engineering and a timeless aesthetic. The esteemed German company is so committed to the art of photography itself that it recently unveiled a New York City flagship that not only offers the brand’s full range of retail products but also includes the Leica Gallery, a dedicated art space that will stage regular exhibitions featuring international talents.

Located in the Meatpacking District, just blocks from The Whitney Museum of American Art and the High Line, the new destination on West 13th Street spans two floors and more than 3,000 square feet. The street level includes the retail portion, where Leica’s entire range of cameras, lenses, sport optic products, and watches are available.

Additionally, on display here is the brand’s first 4K laser TV, the Cine 1, which is newly available in the United States and comes in 100-inch and 120-inch versions. The sleek device is what’s known as a short throw (UST) projector, made in partnership with manufacturer Hisense and equipped with a Leica-engineered Summicron lens that ensures ultra-crisp picture quality.

The gallery also occupies a portion of the ground floor and is now showcasing the work of renowned photographer Elliott Erwitt through May 26 in an exhibition called “Love & Laughter.” Just last year, the Paris-born American artist—who passed away at age 95 in November—was honored with the Leica Hall of Fame Award for his body of work, which is celebrated for its sharp wit and sense of whimsy.

The top floor features a library stocked with a curated collection of photography books courtesy of photographer Todd Hido, as well as a photo studio and a rooftop outdoor area.

“We are excited to expand our presence in Manhattan with the opening of our flagship store and gallery in the heart of the Meatpacking District,” says Matthias Harsch, CEO of Leica Camera. “This new location, in one of the city’s most dynamic neighborhoods, provides photographers with a space to explore, connect, and find inspiration. We are thrilled to expose more people to the Leica experience, allowing them to discover the critical role photography plays in our society.”

Leica Store and Gallery is located at 406 W. 13th St., New York, NY.
