The Most Expensive Home on Lake Tahoe Lists for $65 Million

Whispering Pines of Glenbrook was built in 1989 and sits on 5.47 acres

Situated on 5.47 acres in Glenbrook, Nevada, is a $65 million mansion built in 1989. Listed with Jean Merkelbach of Engel & Völkers, the sprawling abode boasts four bedrooms, four full baths, and one half bath, across 8,211 square feet. It is currently the most expensive home for sale on Lake Tahoe.

The single-family estate is known as Whispering Pines of Glenbrook and sits on Lake Tahoe’s shoreline. Amenities include a private pool and spa, a volleyball court, a three-hole golf course, tennis and pickleball courts, a private beach, and a shared pier.

Inside the main residence are walls of glass, sizeable living spaces, towering ceilings, and awe-inspiring views of Lake Tahoe and its surrounding mountains. The kitchen features a built-in dishwasher and microwave, a garbage disposal, a breakfast bar, a pantry, a built-in double oven, and an island. There is also a formal dining room, a library/study, et al.

Additionally, there is a guest house on the property, which is described as “an intimate haven for family and friends,” according to the listing.

The flooring of the luxe property includes a mix of marble, stone, and carpet. There are also several fireplaces, a laundry room, an in-ground pool, a built-in barbeque, an in-ground hot tub, and a garage with five parking spaces.

Rachelle Prim is the seller of the home; she is a retired physician who was married to the late Wayne Prim, a lawyer, developer, venture capitalist, and golfer. He purchased the property in the 1980s and subsequently built the main house, which architect James Morton designed. Previously, there was only a one-bedroom home on the property, built in the 1940s, which Prim converted into the guesthouse.

As for the $65 million price tag, listing agent Jean Merkelbach says numerous factors were considered when deciding the listing price: substantial lake frontage, a level parcel with a sprawling single-level home, water rights, boating facilities, and the option to create an even larger compound. Additionally, it’s a secluded luxury estate in a tax-friendly location.

“Whispering Pines of Glenbrook is one of the east shore’s most iconic properties,” Merkelbach tells Galerie. “Being a part of its next chapter is an honor.”
