Jaguar Launches Type 01, an EV with Classic Grand-Touring Proportions
The all-electric four-door sedan has uses its engineering in service of design
Storied British automaker Jaguar today unveiled a new high-performance all-electric grand tourer. The Type 01 is sleek, and has all the details appreciated in a Jaguar: long bonnet, low roofline, fluid silhouette, and cleanly oriented frameless doors. Twenty-three–inch wheels also help define the outline. From an interior perspective, a central spine along the full length of the cabin divides it into four individual passenger spaces and with deliberately furniture-like seating and a material palette derived from travertine, brass, and artisan textiles. Much of the technology is hidden until necessary.
Beneath the surface, three electric motors—a 260-kW unit at the front and two 310-kW motors at the rear—produce up to 1,015 horsepower and 1,007 pound-feet of torque, with Jaguar estimating a zero-to-60-mph time of 3.1 seconds. Supplying that power is a 118-kWh lithium-ion battery with Jaguar-specific NMC chemistry and an 850-volt electrical architecture. Connected to a 350-kW DC charger, the Type 01 can add up to 200 miles of range in as little as 13 minutes and charge from 10 to 80 percent in around 22 minutes.
The Type 01 is not Jaguar’s first electric vehicle: 2018 saw the release of the I-PACE. However, it is the first production model built on the dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA). Nominally, the “0” stands for electric propulsion and zero tailpipe emissions, while the “1” identifies it as the first Jaguar of its kind.

Jaguars should be objects of desire and culturally relevant—that’s their natural habitat and where Jaguar is returning,” said Jaguar Managing Director Rawdon Glover. “Type 01 is the foundation of the brand, one that makes no compromise between design and engineering in our quest to reinvent Jaguar for the 21st century.”
Orders for the Type 01 will open in early 2027, with the first deliveries slated for the second half of the year.
