Inside Van Cleef & Arpels’ Enchanting New Madrid Boutique
The outlet is the 120-year-old company’s second in Spain after Barcelona
Van Cleef & Arpels has made its Madrid debut with a jewel box of a shop that translates the maison’s aesthetic approach to its interiors. Situated on Calle de José Ortega y Gasset, the space unfolds across two floors, where original architectural details mingle with an abundance of botanical flourishes. Natural light streams through the many windows, while floral motifs appear throughout, from handmade silk wallpaper to decoration tucked behind the domes of the façade.
Some of the loveliest touches are found in the details. A staircase rises between rounded walls gently painted with mildly pearlescent, bucolic abstraction beneath preserved plasterwork period ceilings, while an intimate salon uses a large central mirror to amplify the light. The glass-covered atrium is striking, conceived as a winter garden where greenery and a bar lounge create a surprisingly serene retreat in the middle of the bustling city outside.
The history-rich rooms feel particularly apt for a label that has spent more than a century translating flora and fauna into high jewelry. An immersive exhibition of more than 40 Van Cleef & Arpels creations, accompanied by archival materials, celebrated the opening. The boutique itself offers a permanent setting in which the brand’s lore, craftsmanship, and enduring fascination with nature extend well beyond the gleaming cases.
