A schedule of seasonal happenings featuring art, style, and design conjures an East End state of mind
1. Eddie Martinez at the The Parrish Art Museum
The Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill is gearing up for an exciting summer, with solo exhibitions by four artists of distinctly different styles. At the institution, which marked its 125th anniversary last year, artist Eddie Martinez will present large-scale abstract paintings inspired by his son’s love of butterflies, including Bufly No. 38 (2023) (below), from June 30 to September 29. Running concurrently is Sam Moyer’s show of conceptual sculptures that explore light and form. The first-ever Julia Chiang solo museum show opens on July 14 as does a major survey of KAWS, featuring never-before-seen paintings and sculptures.
2. Toshiko Takaezu at the LongHouse Reserve
In tandem with The Noguchi Museum’s retrospective of trailblazing 20th-century artist Toshiko Takaezu, LongHouse Reserve in East Hampton presents “Full Circle: Toshiko Takaezu and Friends.” Complementing the artist’s expressively glazed closed-form ceramic sculptures—many of which were acquired by or gifted by Takaezu to the founder of LongHouse, Jack Lenor Larsen—are a selection of works by her artist friends, curated by Glenn Adamson. Visitors to the property can also enjoy resplendent new lounge areas, courtesy of Italian furniture designer Paola Lenti, whose vibrant furnishings transformed the destination’s outdoor spaces.
