When it comes to cultural hubs in the United States, one’s mind might immediately jump to Los Angeles or New York City. However, the city of Austin, Texas has long established itself as a sanctuary of sorts for those seeking artistic inspiration, where artists can continue the tradition of “keeping Austin weird” through a buzzing gallery scene and stimulating energy that pulsates throughout the city.

Case in point, rising star Tyler Guinn. The locally based abstract artist, whose resume includes showcases across the country from California to Alabama, presents canvases that bend the definitions of geometry and abstraction. Recently, Guinn teamed up with Austin-based furniture brand Four Hands to deliver a series of striking new canvases to complement an exciting furniture collaboration with designer Amber Lewis.

“Amber has some of my work in her home,” Guinn tells Galerie. “She’s someone that I’ve known before this launch, and I’ve worked with her team on a few different residential projects. So, I’m honored and humbled by my inclusion in this type of launch.”

Among the new paintings are Return To The PastureMovements of the Soul, and Midnight Harvest. While Guinn’s pieces are immediately recognizable through his work on canvas applied to wood, it’s his inventive mix of mediums—which include leather paint and even pinot noir—that helps give his pieces an almost 3D appearance. As a result, the soothing aura of his paintings provides the perfect balance to the Amber Lewis x Four Hands collection, where a palette of eggshell, light burgundy, and dreamy purple hues pops against the collection’s neutral tones and natural wooden and marble elements.

This creative synergy is all thanks to Four Hands, which has surpassed the average furniture company in its commitment to spotlight local talent by creating its very own studio program, where it produces thousands of artworks in conjunction with more than 175 artists across the country. Located just a short drive from the company headquarters in Austin, Four Hands Art Studio (FHAS) features an experienced team of curators, printmakers, and framers who together help reproduce these pieces alongside state-of-the-art scanners and 3D printers.

“I didn’t know that you could topographically scan textured work, eliminate any light source, and then reproduce it in a way where the light in a space will respond the same way as an original,” says Guinn. “Not only that, but the attention to detail and then the technical capability really sets them apart from other people.”

In addition to the impressive mechanics behind FHAS, the connection between art and producer becomes more intimate and symbiotic. As opposed to purchasing pieces from a reproduction studio, the FHAS team provides buyers reassurance that they are purchasing directly from the artist, who is intimately involved in the process. Not only that, but unlike the usual months it takes to have the artwork in hand, the made-to-order pieces have an estimated delivery time of just two to three weeks if in stock. When it comes to making a home, Four Hands has become the one-stop shop for making both furnishings and art accessible.
