Rumor has it that the rolling, fanciful landscape surrounding the historic Cowley Rectory inspired Lewis Carroll to write Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Now visitors can go down the rabbit hole themselves, thanks to the newest property from Paris hotelier Experimental Group, which enlisted interior designer Dorothée Meilichzon to breathe new life into the site’s Grade II–listed landmark. Nestled on 55 acres, Cowley Manor Experimental, as it’s now known, features 36 whimsical guest rooms that wink at the property’s literary history with playing card motifs and hidden doors, as well as an audacious cocktail program. In the spirit of its storied connection, a full afternoon tea service by ingenious chef Jackson Boxer is served.
