Bronze Edition of Bartholdi’s The Statue of Liberty to Go on View at Hamptons Fine Art Fair
The striking 10-foot sculpture is a centerpiece of the annual event’s America 250 celebrations
This July, attendees of the 20th annual Hamptons Fine Art Fair will be greeted by a 10-foot bronze edition of Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi’s The Statue of Liberty. The sculpture, valued at $1 million, is the only available work from the limited bronze edition of 12 artist proofs made from Bartholdi’s original plaster, which the Musée des Arts et Métiers, Paris, has possession of.
All 12 proofs were cast between 2010 and 2021 with the same plaster Bartholdi used for his final model in 1878, which was enlarged for the iconic statue that currently stands at Ellis Island. Today, ten of the 12 proofs are in prestigious collections, and one, classified as a French National Treasure, is on loan to the French Embassy in D.C. Presented by Modern Fine Art, the sole remaining proof will serve as the centerpiece to the Hamptons Fine Art Fair’s “America 250” celebrations, which will also include exclusive programming.
Visitors will be invited to take in “The British are Coming, Again” showcase, comprised of top contemporary UK galleries, and an exclusive exhibit titled “Trailblazers of Hamptons Abstraction,” which will feature works for sale by prominent artists. Several other installations on view will feature works that interpret America’s heritage, flag, and culture.
The fair, which opens with a VIP preview on July 9 and runs through July 12, drew over 10,000 attendees last summer, with 140 galleries showcasing more than 600 artists from over 15 countries.
