The head of design for the custom cabinetry company crafts a refined kitchen for the Galerie House of Art and Design

Cofounder and head of design at Bakes & Kropp, a custom cabinetry company with locations in New York, the Hamptons, Cold Spring Harbor, and Plymouth, Michigan, Bob Bakes has developed an expansive knowledge of the interior design process and professional project management skills throughout his accomplished career. As head of design, he calls on his years of experience as owner and operator of a kitchen design studio in central London and his well-known former brand, Bakes & Company, based in Sag Harbor.

Hamptons style: “Light, breezy, and, for the most part, informal, Hamptons kitchens are often white with accents of lightly stained walnut or oak. I love the stability of design in the Hamptons. There’s a generational style of the classic white kitchen that was relevant 20 years ago and remains just as beautiful now. Of course, there have been very exciting moves over the last few years to also balance classic with modern.”

Local cuisine: “My studio sits adjacent to the Bell & Anchor, which is one of my favorites.”
