Arthur Creator Sells Longtime Martha’s Vineyard Home for $6.4 Million

The creator of the beloved children’s series Arthur has sold his longtime Martha’s Vineyard home for $6.4 million. The Vineyard Haven property, which Marc Brown and his wife, artist Laurene Kransy Brown, purchased in 1988, is located within Pilot Hill Farm, with roots that date back to the 1700s. The historic home is said to have served as inspiration for the iconic Arthur series.

Personal touches inside include hand-painted Siberian Elm floors and antique mantels surrounding four fireplaces by Marc Brown, while the interior color schemes chosen by Laurene were directly influenced by the home’s natural surroundings.

“The preservation and restoration work that the Browns embarked on to bring the house back to its original condition, and the fact that the whole property was an inspiration for the Arthur books and shows makes it extremely unique in our view,” Alexis Holden, co-listing agent at Tea Lane Associates, told Galerie.

In addition to the five-bedroom, four-bath farmhouse, which dates to 1730, the nearly eight-acre property features three studios near a small waterfall and pond, a pool, a guest house, and a carriage house. The landscape features ash, linden, sycamore, tulip, maple, and various fruit trees, while a small stone bridge at the entrance has inspired Marc’s new HBO animated series, HOP.
