Set amid the quirky canal houses on Amsterdam’s UNESCO World Heritage–listed waterway, the Rosewood Amsterdam possesses a commanding presence. The circa-1665 building, formerly the Palace of Justice, has been reworked to encompass 134 guest rooms and suites, multiple restaurants and bars, and an on-site distillery.

Dutch designer Piet Boon conceived the project with more than 1,000 works of art, including pieces by Frank Stella, Maarten Baas, and Casper Braat. Famed Dutch landscape designer Piet Oudolf supervised the courtyard and gardens. Culturally inspired details spill over to the retreat’s saloon boat, adding another transportive amenity to an already cinematic destination.
